Contracts published by ATO reveal that it’s shelled out another $5.3 Million to Microsoft to extend custom support for their remaining 985 Windows Server 2003 machines.
The agency had planned to migrate the last 20 applications away, But this hasn’t happened.
Even if the planned migration had gone ahead, they were only working on moving to Server 2012. While Microsoft is gearing up for the debut of Windows Server 2019 next month!
“We have extended Microsoft support for the Windows Server 2003 until June 2019. This is to finalise the migration of the last five per cent of business applications,” an ATO spokesperson told iTnews.
I’ve done many large-scale migrations, Nothing quite this large, However, sometimes you have to bite the bullet and make it happen. After all, it’s not like this is the agency holding all the tax records for 24 Million Australian Citizens!
Why not move to a product that was released in 2012? That’s only 6 years ago, an Eternity in the IT industry!
